About Basement Finishing

Finishing a basement is the least expensive way to add real living space to a home, and the easiest project to do wrong in ways that don't show up for years. Two things determine whether it works: water and code. Any moisture issue has to be solved before framing starts, because drywall and carpet over a damp slab becomes a mold problem instead of a family room. And basements carry code requirements the rest of the house doesn't — egress windows in any sleeping room, ceiling height minimums, fire blocking, and access to mechanicals that inspectors will check. We handle the permitting, sequence the mechanical rough-ins around the framing, and build in the insulation and vapor detail that Minnesota basements need to stay warm and dry.
